Thousand Tears Cried for Wally
The Ratonero Bodeguero Andaluz (literally, the Andalusian Wine Cellars' Ratting Dog) is a Spanish terrier. It is believed to be descended from fox terriers crossed with other small breeds. This cross was probably during the XIX century, when many british businessmen stablished in Jerez to deal with Sherry. Its Spanish name reflects its main occupation: hunting rats hidden between Sherry barrels.

Wally was born in Spain we think in the February of 1996 (according to our vets Reckoning)
She could be seen walking the streets & beaches of Fuengirola scavenging for food. On one occasion she was seen being thrown in to the sea by some people.
Wally had been abandoned on Christmas Eve of 1996.

That is when She walked in to the Speak Easy a sea front Bar Restaurant that we where having a drink in she was hungry and looking for food. Wally was recognised by the bar owners as the dog that would come in with English People, Who had apparently gone to England for Christmas. The cheeky monkey went around the tables making a little whingeing noise hoping that the diners would give her something to eat. One family complained that there children where frightened of dogs. Alison stepped in with some friendly advice they soon left. On closer inspection we could see that Wally was heavily with milk and had inflamed teats. She had obviously had a litter of puppies recently their where abouts and fate will never be known. So we took her to our vets where she was checked over and given injection and we where advised to bathe her teats with vinegar diluted in warm water. We had decided that we could not let her roam the streets. So Wally was going to spend Christmas with us and Willy. (Willy had been a stray running the streets of Fuengirola with a pack of dogs
which was quite common in the 80’s)

but that’s another story.Wally loved holidays we would take her on what we called a wally holiday, she loved the mountains and woods of Cazorla National Park, La Alpujarra mountains and Baños de la Encina. 2006 we left spain and moved to the Scottish Borders with our girls Yes girls winnie the cat she decided to adopte us 1999 a kitten who lived under the bonnet of our neibours car and decided that the comfort of a house was better. Now wally was not that keen on cats but did except her in to her house and a life long friendship developed. Wally ended her days a Spanish dog living on a farm in Scotland chasing rabbits and hairs but never catching them.
And I bet she is still trying.
